Blueberries consist of 14% carbonhydrates, 0.7% protein, 0.3% fat and 84% water. They contain micronutrients such as the essential dietary mineral manganese, vitamin C, vitamin K and dietary fiber. Blueberries also contain anthocyanins and other polyphenols and various phytochemicals.
They are very juice and flavorful. Blueberries are usually eaten raw, made into jams, juice, jellies or included in various sauces. Dried blueberries can be added to soups, stews and they are used to sweeten venison meat. The dried variety is also preferred in the preparation of muffins, pies and cheesecakes. They are also a great addition in fruit salads, fresh fruit-tarts, ice-creams etc. The leaves of the blueberry plant can be used to flavour meats, sausages, game, fish, cheese, wine and dried figs. Additionally, blueberries are commonly used in the making of wine or liqueur.
